USS Intrepid, Hudson River, New York, USA
USS Intrepid is an inactive aircraft carrier, WW2 vintage which has been turned into a museum. For some of us, this will be as close as we get to walking on the deck of a live US aircraft carrier. It is an interesting place to be. The carrier is very close to where the Hudson River miracle happened - the A320 that had to crash land into the river about a year ago.
There are about 20 unique aircraft standing tethered on the flight deck and again, the American know how to inform - each aircraft has it's own signboard with details of the particular aircraft. Most of these aircraft have been here for a while and each one has it's own story. Probably half of these aircraft I have never seen so for me, it was interesting.
The hangar deck is full of more interesting aircraft and artifacts. One of the huge brass props from the carrier stands on this deck. Another very interesting object is the Lego version - 1/40th scale of the USS Intrepid built with 250,000 pieces - pretty awesome!
Well worth a visit when you next are in New York. All photos taken with my Canon 60D and 18-135mm lens.
